Princess Charlotte, 10, showed off her musical skills during a surprise appearance alongside the Princess of Wales on ITV’s holiday special Royal Carols: Together at Christmas on Dec. 24.

During what Kensington Palace described as “a special duet,” the mother-daughter duo sat together at the piano to perform “Holm Sound” by Erland Cooper.

Kate—who also shares Prince George, 12, and Prince Louis, 7, with the future King of England—looked graceful in a green Christmas gown, while her mini-me smiled in an adorable navy-blue sweater and plaid skirt outfit for the TV show.

In addition to playing the tune, Kate also gave an emotional message in a narration over the song.

“At its heart, Christmas speaks of love taking form in the simplest, most human ways,” the 43-year-old began. “Not in sentimental or grand gestures, but gentle ones: a moment of listening, a word of comfort, a friendly conversation, a helping hand, presence. These simple acts of care might seem small, but they contribute to the beautiful tapestry of life to which we all belong.”

“Christmas is a time that reminds us how deeply our lives are woven together,” she reflected. “At a time when life can sometimes feel fragmented or uncertain, the Christmas season invites us to remember the power of reaching out to one another with generosity of heart, understanding and hope. This carol service offers a moment of collective togetherness, a chance to celebrate the spirit of community and service and to honor the visible and invisible bonds that unite us all.”

Kate—who shared in January she’s in remission from cancer—went on to express her gratitude for those that have shown care and compassion for others this year.

“As the year draws to a close, I hope this season brings you moments of peace and clarity and that you too feel surrounded by the same love and care that you offer so freely,” she added. “Thank you for the warmth you have given and the kindness you have shown and the quiet, constant light you bring to others. Wishing you a very happy Christmas.”

In the voiceover for the social media teaser, Kate says, “At its heart Christmas speaks of love taking form in the simplest most human ways. Not in sentimental or grand gestures. But gentle ones. A moment of listening. A word of comfort. A friendly conversation. A helping hand. Presents. These simple acts of care might seem small but they contribute to the beautiful tapestry of life to which we all belong.”

She continues, “Christmas is a time which reminds us how deeply our lives are woven together. Just as the roots of trees share strength between the soil, unseen but vital, so too do we. We are drawn by an instinctive pull towards belonging and connection. At a time when life can sometimes feel fragmented or uncertain, the Christmas season invites us to remember the power of reaching out to one another with generosity of heart, understanding and hope. The Princess of Wales concluded, “The time, care and compassion you give often quietly and unspoken—and without any expectation or recognition make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others. As the year draws to a close I hope this season brings you moments of peace and clarity and that you too feel surrounded by the same love and care which you offer so freely. Thank you for the warmth you have given and the kindness you have shown and the quiet constant light you bring to others. Wishing you a very happy Christmas.”

Tomorrow, the royals will attend church at St Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham Estate. Tonight, on Christmas Eve, the royals will open presents—a nod to their German heritage.

“Not in sentimental or grand gestures, but gentle ones, a moment of listening, a word of comfort, a friendly conversation, a helping hand. Presence. These simple acts of care might seem small, but they contribute to the beautiful tapestry of life to which we all belong,” she continued.

Middleton previously teased the touching moment in another post shared to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account hours ahead of the broadcast.

The short clip showed a piano before the camera panned to reveal Middleton’s hand — which could be identified by her sapphire engagement ring — on the keys. Shortly after, a small hand joined hers.

“A special duet…” read the post’s caption.

In addition to Princess Charlotte’s special moment with her mom, the young royal shared another notable moment with the rest of her family at this year’s event as she and her brothers, Prince George, 12, and Prince Louis, 7, caught everyone’s attention with this personal gesture.

The three siblings were photographed adding their own handwritten notes with their names on the long, red paper chain used to decorate the event’s Christmas tree outside Westminster Abbey.

The pictures also showed Middleton and her husband, Prince William, watching on as their children joined in the holiday festivities.

They all sported coordinating outfits for the occasion with the boys wearing navy blue suits and white shirts for the occasion.

Charlotte wore a navy blue dress with a white collar. Meanwhile, Middleton dressed in a winter green coat dress, which matched Prince George’s tie. Louis’ tie featured both green and blue shades.

Joining the Prince and Princess of Wales was Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, as well as her brother, James Middleton, and her sister-in-law, Alizée Thevenet.

Other royal family members including Princess Margaret’s daughter, Lady Sarah Chatto, also made an appearance; along with Zara Tindall and her husband, Mike Tindall, Lord Frederick Windsor and his wife, Sophie Winkelman, and their daughters, Maud, 12, and Isabella, 9.
